During a ceremony in attendance of the Minster of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Commissioner of Cinema Promotion Committee in Seoul as well as representatives of the Busan Cinema Festivals (BIFF) and the City of Busan the Guinness World Records proclamation took place in Busan, South Korea on March 23rd, 2012.
The innovative building combines open space, cultural programs, entertainment, technology and architecture in a novel way. The roof’s ceiling surface is covered completely with an LED surface which allows for unique visual spectacles highlighting the Busan Cinema Center. The dynamically illuminated ceiling serves as the Center’s communication platform with visitors and passers-by. A free span of 85 meters and a roof surface of 60 x 120 meters make the roof longest cantilevered roof in the world. Due to the strong winds that frequently occur in Busan a pair of hydraulic support columns were installed in the below grade garage that emerge under these conditions to prevent excessive uplift to the roof.
The complex comprises about 60 000 m² of performance, event, gastronomy and administrative spaces and has a capacity of up to 6 800 visitors.
